Leading by innovation. The manufacturing of flap wheels and mini flap wheels started. This led to the development of the worlds first 10mm x 10mm mini flap wheel. The production was in the cellar of the familys home. Up to 20 fellow employees were active. So family business is not just a phrase for us, it is our philosophy.
Get PriceCALCULATING SFPM The performance of grinding wheels and quality of the finished workpiece is affected by how fast the abrasive grains sweep over the workpiece. That speed affects surface quality, workpiece burn, material removal rates, and other factors. Since the speed of the abrasives on the wheel perimeter depends upon the diameter of the wheel, RPM isn39t a useful measure.
Grinding Wheel Speed Calculator All Norton grinding wheels are marked with a maximum operating speed in RPM. Most machines, and especially CNC machines, use Surface Feet Per Minute SFPM as an input, which requires operators to do the conversion.
You can always ask your grinding wheel supplier for a calculator. I keep one in my desk and one in my toolbox. It is a quick and easy tool. Where you worked before you maybe had constant speed but you would have still had to input into the machine what SFPM you wanted to run at.
A grinding machine carrying two powerdriven, rotatable, coaxial, horizontal spindles upon the inside ends of which are mounted abrasive disc wheels used for grinding two surfaces simultaneously. 1910.94b1xiiHorizontal singlespindle disc grinder. A grinding machine carrying an abrasive disc wheel upon one or both ends of a powerdriven
Grinding wheels on floor stands, pedestals, benches, and specialpurpose grinding machines and abrasive cuttingoff wheels shall have not less than the minimum exhaust volumes shown in Table D57.1 with a recommended minimum duct velocity of 4,500 feet per minute in the branch and 3,500 feet per minute in the main.
A grinding wheel is a wheel composed of an abrasive compound and used for various grinding abrasive cutting and abrasive machining operations. Such wheels are used in grinding machines.. The wheels are generally made from a composite material consisting of coarseparticle aggregate pressed and bonded together by a cementing matrix called the bond in grinding wheel terminology to form a
Norton precision grinding wheels are designed to consistently achieve precise finishes and tight geometry tolerances. Whether you work with cutting tools, automotive components like camshafts and crankshafts or aerospace components, our precision grinding wheels will stand up to today39s highest requirements.
In short, never overspeed a grinding wheel. The speed of the grinder must be compared to the speed marked on the wheel or package to make sure the machines speed is at or below the maximum operating speed of the wheel. Surpassing this rating risks not just wheel breakage but also the safety of shop personnel.

I am looking to find how long it takes a grinding wheel to tavel 103939 along a workpiece. The grinding wheel revolves at 60 fpm. My grinding wheel is 163939 in OD and 13939 wide. The workpiece diameter is 33939. feed is 143939 per revolution. I cannot seem to find the correct equation. thanks
Generally you want about 5500 FPM for vitreous bonded aluminum oxide grinding wheels. Work the math and you get the RPM for the wheel diameter your grinder is made for. As it happens a 734 grinding wheel is very happy at 3500 RPM. 5500 dia x 4 FPM thereabouts.
To move grinding wheel speeds into the ultrahigh speed grinding UHSG regime above 40,000 fpm or 200 msec, the wheel core must be made of metal, and the abrasive is likely to be plated. Such wheels can run at nearsonic speeds 66,000 fpm or 335 msec without the fear of bursting.
Use for grinding, deburring, and sharpening at a workstation. Use for precision grinding on surface, cylindrical, and tool and cutter grinding equipment. Use for heavy material removal over large surface areas. Use for heavy material removal in one spot or along weld seams. Use to sharpen and clean grinding wheels. Also known as dressers.
On the other hand, very low grinding wheel speeds, in the order of 3,000 to 4,000 fpm about 15 to 20 msec are needed for the surface grinding of various types of high alloy and high strength work materials, using the lower wheel speed as a means for minimizing the development of heat, to which certain types of materials and workpieces are

Grinding is an abrasive machining process that uses a grinding wheel as the cutting tool . A wide variety of machines are used for grinding Handcranked knifesharpening stones grindstones Handheld power tools such as angle grinders and die grinders. Various kinds of expensive industrial machine tools called grinding machines.
Machining Cutting Cutting Tool Applications Chapter 16 Grinding Wheels and Operations. Grinding or abrasive machining is the process of removing metal from a work piece in the form of tiny chips by the action of irregularly shaped abrasive particles.
Mechanical cleaning may involve abrasive blasting, wire wheels, sandpapersanding belts, grinding wheels, or abrasive chips in tumbling mills. To capture and entrain the large heavy particles produced by cleaning the required capture velocity is often very high with collection hoods positioned to direct materials towards the hood.
Need to know your grinding wheel39s SFPM Use this handy formula to calculate your SFPM SFPM Wheel Diameter in inches x 0.2618 x RPM
Machinery39s Handbook says 7500 FPM but quotes a manufacturer that says 4000 to 6000 FPM. To get into tight places I have a small 434 wheel setup on a buffer thats belted up to turn 5400 RPM 6785 FPM. My regular 834 wheels turn about 3600 RPM. This means they start at 7500 FPM and as they wear they are still in an efficient buffing range.
